Coastal sites in South Australia are unforgiving. Salt, wind and light attack a building from three directions, and the view that justifies the site is usually the one that exposes it most.
The best answers we have seen share a strategy: close the street elevation almost entirely, then open a single controlled aperture to the water, and moderate it with depth rather than glass technology.
It is an approach that requires conviction at the design stage and rewards it for the following fifty years.
